Razer Viper V2 Pro Review

Razerthink – You can’t talk about gaming gear without talking about Razer. The Razer Viper V2 Pro is here. If you’ve been reading this Razer Viper V2 Pro review, you’re in the market for a new lightweight wireless gaming mouse. This could be your top choice, and in fact, it’s one of the best gaming mice out there. Previously I talked about the Razer Viper Ultimate, the high-end spin-off of the lightweight, fast, and ambidextrous Razer Viper. With all the esports gear you could ask for in a wireless gaming mouse, Ultimate impressed us with its outstanding feature set despite its high price tag. Three years later, the company has taken another step towards wireless gaming dominance with the Viper V2 Pro ($149.99), which elevates the Viper Ultimate in almost every way.

Viper v2 Pro streamlines design with esports players in mind. Things like the side buttons and side grips have been optimized, while other features like RGB lighting have been omitted altogether in the name of lightness. Previous highlights, such as the optical sensor, mouse switch, and even the battery, have been upgraded. In addition, the Viper V2 Pro has many new smart functions via the Razer Synapse software.

Despite replacing the latter’s charging dock with a simple USB-C cable, the new mouse isn’t cheaper than its predecessor. Still, it easily earns me the accolades personally in its category. Razer has ditched several parts of its predecessor except for the Focus Pro 30K’s kitchen optical sensor, the device to squeeze it down to a flying weight of 58g. That weight beats most ‘ultra light’ gaming mice on the market and cuts an additional 17g from the previous Ultimate model.

However, at $149.99 / £149.99, the Viper V2 Pro will need to work hard to prove its worth outside the FPS market. We tested the clicker for some time and played with it, in particular, to see where Razer’s latest model ranks among the best gaming mouse options on the market. In short, Razer made one of the best, lightest wireless gaming mice globally with the Viper V2 Pro. After spending some quality time with this lightweight monster, I’m excited to enter a competitive tournament in my room.

Design

The shape hasn’t changed too much since the Razer Viper Ultimate. Measuring 1.49 by 2.27 by 4.99 inches (HWD), the Viper V2 Pro is no longer an ambidextrous design. But the chassis never felt like it would shatter into pieces if dropped. It’s an impressive design feat. I think everyone will be instantly surprised by how light it is. It weighs only 58g and feels very light for its long shallow dimension of 126.7 x 57.6 x 37.8mm. The Razer Viper V2 Pro is still very comfortable in hand, with just the correct length for a fingertip, claw, or palm grip and long-lasting comfort in a slim fit.

A right-handed symmetrical mouse, the Razer Viper V2 Pro has nearly straight sides with the body raised to rest your palm. No big indentations or thumbs here. It’s also made entirely of plastic, so you don’t get a rubber grip for a firm grip. But Razer ships extra grip tape in the box. But I wouldn’t say I like the materials; they feel like rubber tires grinding on your finger. I wish these grip bands were more premium, considering the high price. Granular height—up from three in the previous version. With a maximum resolution of 30,000 dpi and a top speed of 750 inches per second, this new sensor is impressive.

Feature

The included USB wireless dongle provides a very stable experience over a 2.4GHz connection, the standard for high-end wireless gaming mice. However, users who prefer a wired connection only need to plug in the included SpeedFlex cable. The latter uses a USB-C port like the micro USB port that the Viper Ultimate has.

When I flipped the mouse over, I found at the bottom three PTFE feet the power/DPI button and the new Focus Pro 30k optical sensor. This unique design enhances the previous Focus Plus sensor in several exciting ways. It works on various surfaces, including glass up to 2mm thick, and promises increased power efficiency that helps give the V2 Pro up to 80 hours of battery life.

The V2 Pro leverages Razer’s Smart Tracking, Motion Sync, and Asymmetric Cut-Off technologies. As with its predecessor Viper Ultimate, the former’s function helps maintain a consistent lift distance on any surface and allows for greater control. Motion Sync at precise intervals on your PC extracts information from the mouse, ensuring it gets the latest updates on your mouse position. Lastly, Asymmetric Cut-Off now has 26 levels of customization.

And maybe you should forget about Chroma on this Razer Viper Pro, no RGB here. While some light-minded people might be disappointed, I’m personally more than happy to sacrifice a few LEDs for a battery upgrade like that. Everything about the Razer Viper V2 Pro has been streamlined for performance, and nothing is more noticeable than on the feature list.

Synapse 3 Software on Razer Viper V2 Pro

Losing RGB doesn’t render Razer’s customization software, Razer Synapse, useless. Sure, even if there’s no light to adjust, you’re free to calibrate, tweak, and adjust sensitivity, power level, and more to your liking. Although you’re limited to just one onboard profile, the mouse offers five DPI settings. Razer Synapse 3 is a finicky program, but you have to install it to take advantage of the Hypershift functionality; you also need Synapse to take advantage of the Hyperspeed Multi-Device Pairing function.

This enables increased latency across Razer wireless products similar to wired connections. Which temporarily adds a secondary set of functions on top of the existing vital assignments, effectively adding a set of custom keybindings. This is ideal for strategy games and MMOs, where having multiple shortcuts can increase control tenfold.

Performance

Razer boasts that the Viper V2 Pro is the first gaming mouse that tracks accurately on glass. The mouse can follow well on almost anything, including glass. I can use the mouse on anything. Because the Viper V2 Pro is so light and the 100% PTFE mouse feet are so smooth, the Razer Viper V2 Pro glides effortlessly over my mousepad, which allows me to be faster and more efficient with my gameplay on valorant. This mouse is very ergonomic, and you can feel it in its performance.

The Razer Viper V2 Pro has a very short optical switch, introducing a Gen 3 switch that promises 20 million more clicks than the previous design. The toggle zone is vast and tactile, ensuring you’ll never accidentally click a switch. The Focus Pro 30K optical sensor provides accurate tracking with 70G acceleration. It will achieve up to 30K DPI, which you can adjust via software and using the dedicated DPI button.

With Razer’s third-generation optical switches, clicks are tactile and fast instead of mechanical switches. The switch lifecycle lasts around 90 million clicks, so the Razer Viper V2 Pro should be a durable PC gaming accessory. The wireless connectivity is also worth mentioning here as it’s fantastic, maintaining a stable connection with no issues with latency. I tried the Pro either way, but after a few games of Valorant, the mouse started to settle down. Games like Valorant need fast swipes and mouse repositioning to guess flicks and angles in Valorant. When I tried the Razer Viper V2 Pro, I felt very comfortable shooting in any situation.

Overall

If you want a lightweight wireless gaming mouse, it won’t be much lighter than the Razer Viper V2 Pro. Before you hold it yourself, I will find it difficult to describe how light it is because it is light; the Razer Viper V2 Pro is also very ergonomic and reliable. If you are looking to improve the gameplay in your Competitive Game, then this will not disappoint. Indeed there has been a reduction in some aspects of Viper ultimate but reduced to improve performance without weight. Still, the hardware upgrades and software features make it an excellent choice for esports gamers.
